Rooted in the Presbyterian tradition, open to every faith. One school community, many voices lifted in devotion.
ANSEC's chaplaincy was established alongside the school itself in 1897, rooted in the Presbyterian tradition that founded this institution. Today, our chaplaincy serves every student — Christian and Muslim alike — nurturing spiritual growth, moral character, and a life of purposeful service.
We believe that a school which honours the spiritual dimension of human life produces graduates who are not only academically excellent, but who are people of integrity, compassion, and inner strength.
Every student who passes through these gates carries a soul that is searching — for meaning, for connection, for purpose. My role is not to impose a religion, but to create a space where every young person can encounter something greater than themselves, whatever name they give it.
— Rev. John K. Donkor, School ChaplainRev. Donkor has served as School Chaplain at ANSEC for over twelve years. A graduate of Trinity Theological College, Legon, he holds a Bachelor of Theology and a Master of Divinity with a specialisation in pastoral counselling and adolescent spiritual development.
Though ordained in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Donkor is deeply committed to the spiritual wellbeing of every student at ANSEC — Christian and Muslim alike. He works closely with the school's Muslim students to ensure they have dedicated time and space for Friday Jumu'ah prayers and Islamic observances.
ANSEC is a Presbyterian school that fully embraces its Muslim students. Both communities have dedicated spaces, programmes, and regular worship activities that honour their distinct traditions.
The majority of ANSEC's students participate in the Christian fellowship, centred on the school chapel. Our Christian community spans denominations — Presbyterian, Methodist, Pentecostal, and others — united in shared devotion and service.
ANSEC's Muslim students are warmly welcomed and fully supported in practising their faith. The school provides dedicated space for daily prayers (Salah), Friday Jumu'ah, and Islamic observances including Ramadan fasting and Eid celebrations.
ANSEC's Commitment: No student shall be disadvantaged, pressured, or made to feel unwelcome because of their faith. We celebrate the diversity of belief within our school community as a gift and a strength.

The chaplaincy extends far beyond Sunday services. We walk with students through every season of school life — the triumphs and the trials.
When a student loses a loved one, the Chaplain provides personal prayer, grief support, and helps coordinate compassionate leave and family communication.
The Chaplain mediates conflicts between students with a foundation of faith-based reconciliation, promoting forgiveness, respect, and restored relationships.
Exam pressure is real. The Chaplain offers spiritual grounding and practical counsel for students struggling with anxiety, fear of failure, or academic overwhelm.
Boarding school can amplify homesickness and family worries. The Chaplain is a safe, confidential presence for students dealing with difficulties at home.
Students facing ethical dilemmas — in relationships, social pressure, or personal conduct — find the Chaplain a non-judgemental guide grounded in shared values.
One-on-one spiritual direction is available for any student seeking to deepen their faith, understand their tradition, or simply ask the big questions of life.
ANSEC's chapel stands at the heart of campus — a place of stillness amid the energy of school life. Built in the early years of the school's history, it has been a gathering place for prayer, song, and contemplation across generations of students.
The dedicated Muslim prayer room in the Administration Block provides a clean, quiet space for the five daily prayers and for Friday Jumu'ah. The school is committed to maintaining and improving these spaces.
The chaplaincy at Anum Senior High School is not simply a department — it is the spiritual heartbeat of this community. Whether you are arriving for Sunday chapel or for Friday Jumu'ah, for a word of prayer or a moment of quiet, the doors of the chaplaincy are open to you.
